Youth career expo highlights high-demand jobs in public service

The region’s fifth Public Service Career Expo took place Nov. 15, 2023, at Bartle Hall in Kansas City, Missouri. This free, in-person event allowed middle and high-school students to explore high-demand and rewarding career opportunities in local government. Numerous cities and counties across the bistate region co-sponsored the expo, featuring hands-on, interactive sessions on public sector jobs and information on internships, job shadow and volunteer opportunities.

The Mid-America Regional Council would like to thank the sponsors and more than 300 representatives from local governments and area colleges who made the expo a success. Lead sponsors included the city of Kansas City, Missouri; Jackson County, Missouri; Johnson County, Kansas; and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas. Additional event sponsors included WaterOne, the University of Missouri – Kansas City, and the cities of Leawood, Lenexa, Merriam, Olathe, Overland Park, Prairie Village and Shawnee in Kansas, and the cities of Gladstone, Grandview, Liberty and North Kansas City in Missouri.
