Payments, cancellations and refunds
If payment is required, payment by credit card or ACH is expected at the time of registration. If payment is rendered by check, payment must be received on or before the start of the course.
If a registrant cannot attend a course, cancellation for enrollment may be made by mail (received not postmarked), e-mail or telephone up to five business days prior to the course to receive a full refund of the registration fee. The registrant may transfer to another course, but arrangements must be made prior to the five-day cancellation window in order to avoid the charge for the original course. A registrant may also identify a substitute to take the place in the course in lieu of cancellation.
Pre-registration is always preferred, but some courses may permit walk-in registration for online or in-person courses. Check with the point of contact listed on the registration page for the course. Payment must be made at the time of the course for walk-ins.
Exceptions to this policy may be authorized by the program manager, program director or department director.
Registration confirmation
A confirmation notice with the date, time, location of the course, parking instructions, map and other relevant information will be sent to participants whose registration is received five business days prior to the course.
Accommodations
Participants who require special accommodation to participate in a course should notify MARC at the time of registration. This could include a qualified interpreter, closed captioning, large print, a reader, or hearing assistance. MARC will make every effort to meet reasonable requests. If accommodations cannot be made to allow the participant to meet the requisites for the course, the participant will be notified as soon as possible and a refund will be issued, if applicable.
Certificates and credits
If applicable, the number of continuing education credits (CEUs) or other credentials earned will be listed on the course registration page. A certificate of completion identifying such credentials will be issued upon successful completion of the course. The certifying bodies for certain credentials may have additional requirements, and MARC is only able to verify completion of its courses. Successful completion is determined by the course instructor based on the course requirements and learning objectives.
Disputes and appeals
If a participant is dissatisfied with any aspect of a course, the participant should contact the point of contact for the course listed on the registration page to discuss the matter. MARC will attempt to rectify the situation if possible.
If a participant is dismissed from a course, or if a certificate of completion is not awarded, the participant should first contact the point of contact for the course to discuss the matter. If a resolution is not reached, the participant may file a protest in writing via email to gti@marc.org or via postal mail to Attn: Training Protest (GTI), Mid-America Regional Council, 600 Broadway, Suite 200, Kansas City, MO 64105. Protests should be made no later than three (3) days after the participant receives notification regarding a dismissal or certificate of completion. The protest should clearly state the grounds for such a protest, the resolution desired and rationale for the resolution. Upon receipt of the protest, the matter will be referred to MARC’s Executive Director, or the director’s designee, who will review the course requirements, learning objectives and other documentation available and determine if a certification or refund should be issued in response to the protest. The written decision of the Executive Director is final.
Inclement weather and safety
MARC will generally make the decision to cancel or postpone a course due to inclement weather by noon the day before the course is scheduled to meet. MARC staff will notify registrants via electronic mail and will provide notification on the training and events calendar on the MARC website (https://www.marc.org/training-and-events).
If the weather deteriorates significantly after the noon deadline, MARC will inform course participants of any changes as soon as possible via electronic mail.
Training rooms in the MARC Conference Center are equipped with emergency evacuation and sheltering instructions. For events held offsite, MARC will comply with applicable policies and guidance provided by the host facility.
Cancellations, rescheduling and relocations
MARC reserves the right to cancel, reschedule or relocate courses for any reason. Every effort will be made to provide reasonable advance notice to participants via electronic mail. Refunds will only be issued in the event of cancellation.
Code of conduct
MARC has adopted six core values that include a commitment to diversity and inclusion. MARC strives to understand, respect, value and accept all differences. MARC prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
MARC courses are designed to ensure open, accessible and equitable processes and create a supportive culture with clear expectations for participation. Courses accommodate respectful differences of opinion on personally held beliefs. Comments or behavior that are profane, derogatory, inflammatory or otherwise disruptive to the learning environment will not be tolerated.
Participants should accurately represent their qualifications and credentials related to MARC courses and discontinue the use of all claims to certification upon incompletion, suspension or withdrawal from a course.
Confidential information
MARC is a public organization and is subject to the Missouri Open Records Act (Chapter 610, RSMo). Many training materials and registration records may qualify as public records obtained or retained by MARC and may be open to the public or media upon request unless those records are specifically protected from disclosure by law or exempted under the Missouri Sunshine Law. MARC will not engage in unauthorized disclosure or use of any personal or other confidential information provided to MARC upon enrollment in a course.
Course participants may have access to information that is sensitive and protected from public disclosure by law. If so, this will be disclosed in advance of providing the information to participants. Participants are expected to protect and refrain from disclosing any information that is identified as confidential.
Registration as consent
By enrolling in a course, the participant consents to adhere to these Training and Events Policies and Procedures. MARC reserves the right to dismiss participants from courses for policy violations, including the code of conduct. Participants who are dismissed are not eligible for a refund or certification of completion.
