Operation Green Light (OGL) has upgraded traffic signal controllers and installed new Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to reduce emissions and improve traffic flow in the Kansas City area. This Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality project aims to decrease unnecessary stops, delays and ozone pollution.

OGL updated 57 traffic signal controllers in Raymore, Belton, Lee’s Summit, Independence, Kansas City, North Kansas City, Gladstone, and MoDOT, integrating them with the Advanced Traffic Management System for enhanced safety and efficiency. Additionally, OGL deployed CCTV cameras with Pan-Tilt-Zoom capabilities at key intersections for real-time traffic incident monitoring. Fourteen of 16 cameras have been installed at high-priority intersections to facilitate prompt response to traffic signal problems.

Installation locations:

  • MoDOT: I-49 at 163rd Street, US 69 at Brighton, Holmes at 104th Street, M-291 at Liberty, M-291 at Courtney, M-291 at Kentucky, M-291 at Leonard, US 71 at Linwood, US 71 at 31st Street, US 71 at The Paseo
  • Independence: Little Blue Parkway at Valley View, Noland Road at Truman Road
  • Belton: 163rd Street at Markey Parkway

OGL works closely with KC Scout and other agencies to manage freeway and arterial traffic, ensuring a coordinated approach to traffic signal timing and communication across jurisdictional boundaries.
