Youth career expo highlights high-demand jobs in public service

Hosted by county and municipal leaders from around the Kansas City region, approximately 3,200 young people from more than 50 metro-area high schools and middle schools attended the fifth Public Service Career Expo at Bartle Hall in Kansas City, Missouri.  

The free, in-person event gave middle and high school students a chance to explore rewarding and high-demand career opportunities in local government, such as law enforcement, fire/EMS, parks/recreation, public health, public works/trades/utilities, administration, human services and information technology. 

Students learned about important job skills including CPR, firefighting techniques, communicating with the public and more. The expo also highlighted internships, job shadowing and volunteer opportunities available across the region. 

The Mid-America Regional Council would like to thank this year's sponsors and more than 300 representatives from local governments and area colleges who made this year's event a success!
