First-ever Metro KC Climate Action Summit aims to increase climate resilience

Join us on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at the Johnson County Community College for a special event with internationally recognized speakers who will discuss emerging trends, climate change and action steps for the Kansas City region.

Climate change is a global issue, but climate resilience starts at the local level. Last December, local elected officials held a workshop to discuss potential climate solutions for Greater Kansas City, and that initial conversation led to the formation of the Metro KC Climate Action Coalition. This fall, coalition members will host their first-ever Metro KC Climate Action Summit to advance collective action and seek shared solutions.

Join us on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at the Johnson County Community College for a special event with internationally recognized speakers who will discuss emerging trends, climate change and action steps for the Kansas City region. Panelists will also discuss the new energy economy, the business case for climate resilience, green building and efficiency, transportation impacts, equity and public health, local success stories and national solutions to climate change.

  • Brigadier General (ret.) W. Christopher King
  • U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids, 3rd District of Kansas
  • James Brainard, Mayor, City of Carmel, Indiana
  • Julie Lorenz, Secretary, Kansas Department of Transportation

We are pleased to host Paul Hawken, internationally known environmentalist, entrepreneur, activist and author of “Drawdown,” as our keynote speaker at the summit. Hawken has dedicated his life to environmental sustainability and altering the relationship between business and the environment. As one of the leading voices for the environmental movement, Hawken has spoken with CEOs and heads of state on subjects such as industrial ecology, economic development, and environmental policy.

Please join us for a day of dynamic conversation about how we can work together to increase our region’s climate resilience. Elected leaders from all levels of government, community and business leaders, municipal employees, academics, parents and students are encouraged to attend.
