KCHousingLocator.com helps connect more people to safe, accessible and affordable housing

KCHousingLocator.com has launched a new tool helping social service agencies in the Kansas City region connect vulnerable populations to affordable and accessible housing without sacrificing privacy rights. This feature provides authorized caseworkers confidential access to housing units designated to serve clients with special needs, such as people with disabilities, the elderly, Veterans, transitional age youth, students, people experiencing homelessness and others. To protect confidentiality and safety, a property’s special needs designation is only viewable with secure, password-protected access. 

All available housing units are still searchable on KCHousingLocator.com. The critical difference is that the special needs populations a landlord elects to work with are not visible to the public. In 2024, the locator tool had over 40,000 searches spread throughout the nine-county Kansas City region. Listing and searching for properties on the site is free.

To receive access to property listings serving special needs populations, caseworkers must be approved and undergo confidentiality training. Those requesting access will be required to complete a survey evaluating the individual based on caseload and special populations served, among other criteria.

KCHousingLocator.com was launched in June 2023 and is sponsored by the city of Kansas City, Missouri and the Greater Kansas City Regional Housing Partnership (RHP). In partnership with LISC Greater Kansas City, MARC convenes and coordinates the RHP to build an effective housing system that expands and sustains access to affordable housing and promotes regional prosperity to result in better economic and health outcomes. The partnership is mobilizing individuals and organizations to enact systems-level change around the goal of creating and preserving more homes of greater variety and at different price points across the region.
