The 6th annual Age Positive: Ideas for an Age-Friendly Future virtual conference was held on May 11-13, 2021, offering a forum for innovative program ideas to enhance current older adult programming, develop new programs and offer workshops to help participants hone leadership skills. The theme for Age Positive 2021 was "Refresh — Restart — Renew."

On Friday, April 16, Johnson County, Kansas, became the first county in our region to be recognized as a Community for All Ages.

Free help is available to connect older adults to COVID-19 vaccines.

Following a kickoff on Feb. 23, 2021, Silver-Haired Legislature (SHL) delegates from all over Missouri are holding their first week-long, virtual Silver-Haired Advocacy Week. Through phone calls, video calls and emails, delegates are meeting with legislators to highlight SHL’s past achievements, as well as its current priorities.

On Friday, Jan. 15, the Mid-America Regional Council honored the cities of Grandview, Missouri, and North Kansas City, Missouri, for becoming more age friendly.

The new $8.1 million public and private funding will provide continued support for the Double Up Food Bucks program, which has provided healthy food incentives to SNAP recipients in Kansas and Missouri since 2015.

Double Up Food Bucks is once again available in the area, allowing those using SNAP (food assistance) benefits to double their food dollars for fresh fruits and vegetables.

To address the increased demand for home-delivered meals, MARC staff have found new resources and formed new partnerships.

KC Communities for All Ages awardees are recognized for their work to ensure that older adults are valued, understood, respected and involved in creating and sustaining a high quality of life in their communities.  

Community Health Workers (CHWs) are trained professionals who serve as a bridge between patients and health or social services agencies. Since they’re usually from the communities they serve, they understand and can represent the needs and interests of their clients, helping them to communicate better with health care providers and to self-manage their health conditions.
