The “Reframing Aging: Building a Culture of Age-Inclusivity in Local Governments" workshop focused on understanding ageism and how it can impact decision-making; how to employ strategies for age-inclusive decision-making, tailored to local governments; and how to create a culture of age-inclusivity in local governments.

Presenters from the Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging at Washington University in St. Louis discussed concepts from the National Center to Reframe Aging model to counter ageism in our communities. The Reframing Aging Initiative is a social change endeavor designed to improve the public’s understanding of what aging means and the many contributions older people bring to society.

Webinar participants were also introduced to a new inclusion tool designed to apply these principles in real workplace scenarios at all levels of local government. The tool was developed through the Communities for All Ages program at MARC, in conjunction with Emily Randel of EJR Consulting, and can facilitate age-inclusive decision-making in strategic planning, internal working groups, community engagement exercises and individual-level projects.
