This training opportunity is sponsored by Kansas Hazardous Materials Emergency Planning (HMEP) funds. This is a 16-hour course delivered on a shift-friendly schedule over the course of 2 days.
The course covers the chemistry of hazardous materials with live demonstrations, hands-on activities and lots of chemical identification exercises using a variety of air monitoring and sample identification equipment including pH paper, oxidizer paper, multi-gas instruments, PIDs, mass spectrometers, flame photometry, and Raman and FTIR spectrometers. Students will get hands-on experience with two dozen different chemicals. Target audience: Hazmat personnel emergency services personnel in the nine-county Kansas City metropolitan area: Leavenworth, Johnson, Miami and Wyandotte counties in Kansas and Cass, Clay, Jackson, Platte and Ray counties in Missouri.
There is no cost to attend, but you must register. You must register for each day separately.
