Example
While exploring metal lids in a toddler classroom, one child discovered how the lid slid across the smooth surface of a shelf. As the child repeated the action of pushing the lid across the table and then moving to the other side of the shelf to push it again from the opposite direction.

His teacher noticed this interaction and knelt down to join him on his level. The teacher smiled, made eye contact with the child and then paused to see what he would do. The child pushed the lid towards his teacher and eagerly awaited her response. The teacher pushed the lid back towards the child. He repeated the action of pushing the lid back to his teacher. Together the child and teacher were able play this “game” for several minutes.
