About this position

The Transportation Intern may work up to 20 hours per week during the school year and full time during academic breaks and the summer. Daytime scheduling will be flexible.  Occasional weekend or evening event work may be required. This internship will span from summer 2025 through the end of May 2026 with the potential for extension. The Transportation Intern position is a combination of in-person and remote work.

  • Research  
  • Data collection and processing  
  • Work with a geographic information system (GIS) to analyze, interpret, and display spatial data 
  • Create reports and presentation materials 
  • Assist with committee and training support 

About you

Skills you’ll need 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with internal staff, citizens, and outside organizations 
  • Analytical abilities required to integrate and interpret data from various sources 
  • Effective writing skills to summarize data accurately and concisely  
  • Knowledge of the principles of research, standard statistical procedures, sources of planning information, and techniques used in the preparation of materials for presentation. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office  

Basic requirements 

  • Current student enrolled in a degree seeking program 
  • Educational and/or past work experience in urban planning, engineering, geography, public administration or a closely related field.   

 Additional qualifications 

  • Preference given for experience in transportation planning, statistical analysis , database management, and geographic information systems 

Salary and benefits

Starting salary for this position is $16 per hour for undergraduate students and $17 per hour for graduate students, with a potential for an increase after six months based on performance. MARC offers an attractive team-oriented work environment.
