U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II announces the Bistate Sustainable Reinvestment Corridor.

U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II announced the grant to support the Bi-State Sustainable Reinvestment Corridor project, which will connect four cities in two states and two counties by implementing a 24-mile, zero-emission regional transit route, including improved access to housing, health care, employment and education for residents in each city and the surrounding areas. The project aims to link the east-west corridor connecting Independence Square, Missouri; Sugar Creek, Missouri; downtown Kansas City, Missouri; downtown Kansas City, Kansas; and Village West in Wyandotte County, Kansas.

The grant uses federal funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability & Equity (RAISE) Grant program. The funds will be awarded to MARC to support planning efforts for the corridor project.

The grant funding will help update transportation plans, complete project development and environmental documentation for zero-emission transportation elements, and complete advanced conceptual engineering design for one or more high-capacity transit routes.

The partners involved in the corridor project include civic and business organizations, along with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas; City of Kansas City, Missouri; Jackson County, Missouri; City of Independence, Missouri; City of Sugar Creek, Missouri; RideKC; and MARC.
