REECS - Regional Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy

Mid‐America Regional Council (MARC) has formed a partnership with a consortium of city and county governments, entitled the Regional Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy (REECS) Initiative. Eleven area communities work together to help the region conserve energy and use it wisely, as well as providing training and guidance on updated energy codes. The REECS communities include:

  • Blue Springs, Mo.

  • Clay County, Mo.

  • Independence, Mo.

  • Jackson County, Mo.

  • Johnson County, Kan.

  • Kansas City, Mo.

  • Lee’s Summit, Mo.

  • Lenexa, Kan.

  • Olathe, Kan.

  • Shawnee, Kan.

  • Unified Government of Wyandotte County / Kansas City, Kan.

The steering committee for this project meets quarterly.

The REECS Consortium has produced the following reports: The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has shared the following with our group:
  • Local Energy Code Action Kit
This kit provides municipalities and counties with information and resources to support the adoption of the model energy code — the 2009 IECC — and its enforcement. MDNR has also shared a document to explain the incremental cost estimates.
